PTFE rod for soft mating surface

For bearings, wear rings, and guides that run against soft mating surfaces such as aluminum, bronze, brass, zinc alloys, or engineering plastics, standard PTFE rod can be too soft and prone to cold flow under edge load. The better choice is a polyimide-modified grade that keeps the low friction of PTFE while adding stiffness and creep resistance. Our 10% polyimide PTFE rod for dry bearing is designed to maintain dimensional stability under clamping and uneven pressure while protecting polished or coated counterfaces from scratches and micro-welding. The PI filled PTFE round bar version offers the same benefits in a standard round stock format, making it easy to machine thin-wall bushings, thrust washers, wear strips, and custom guide pads. When the primary requirement is minimal friction without sacrificing load capacity, the low friction polyimide PTFE rod delivers consistent slip and reduced heat generation in slow-speed or intermittent motion. As a long-term 10% PI PTFE rod supplier, we stock common diameters and offer quick cutting for prototype and production runs. This material is especially effective in dry-start conditions, linear guides, food packaging equipment, and light-load hydraulic components where soft metal or plastic housings must not be scored.

PTFE rod for soft mating surface is manufactured from a controlled resin blend that distributes polyimide particles evenly through the PTFE matrix. This dispersion prevents localized soft spots that can cause uneven wear on delicate counterfaces. The material shows low stick-slip tendency, so it works well in slow-speed oscillating movements where static friction must remain close to dynamic friction. In practice, designers select this rod for bearing inserts, wear strips, valve seats, and slide pads that contact anodized aluminum, brass, bronze, stainless steel with a soft coating, or reinforced thermoplastics. The rod can be machined with standard carbide tooling, and it does not require post-bake stress relief for diameters under 75 mm. For tighter tolerance work, we recommend allowing a roughing pass followed by a light finishing cut to control final size and dimensional drift. All stock is produced from virgin resin and contains no reprocessed PTFE, which helps maintain consistent thermal and mechanical properties. The finished surface has a low tendency to pick up dust or process residue, so cleaning and maintenance intervals are short. The dark brown color also aids visual inspection on light-colored assemblies.
