Aromatic polyester PTFE tubing is an engineered fluoropolymer stock shape designed for sealing, bearing, and wear-ring applications where standard PTFE lacks sufficient creep resistance, dimensional stability, or wear life. The aromatic polyester filler, commonly known as Ekonol, is uniformly dispersed in the PTFE matrix to improve compressive strength and reduce cold flow while preserving the low friction and chemical inertness of PTFE. In reciprocating and rotary compressor sealing systems, a 10% Ekonol PTFE tube for compressor seal is frequently selected because the filler helps maintain precise seal geometry under pressure and thermal cycling. The aromatic polyester PTFE tubing is manufactured from a homogeneous blend of PTFE resin and 10% aromatic polyester filler by weight. The compound is compression molded into tubular billets, sintered at high temperature under controlled conditions, and then precision machined to final dimensions. The aromatic polyester filler behaves as a thermotropic liquid crystal polymer during processing, creating a self-reinforcing structure inside the PTFE matrix. This structure increases load-bearing capacity, reduces deformation under compressive stress, and improves wear resistance without sacrificing the broad chemical compatibility of PTFE. The material is suitable for seal rings, piston rings, wear bands, bushings, valve seats, and other components that require a balance of low friction, dimensional accuracy, and long service life under moderate loads. Standard dimensions range from 4 mm to 200 mm outside diameter, with wall thickness from 0.5 mm to 25 mm. Lengths up to 1000 mm are typically stocked, while cut-to-length pieces and custom-machined components are available on request. Dimensional tolerances are held to ±0.05 mm for outside diameters up to 25 mm, ±0.10 mm for diameters from 25 mm to 100 mm, and ±0.15 mm for diameters above 100 mm. Machined sealing faces generally have a surface finish of 0.8 µm Ra or better, with tighter finishes available for critical dry-running applications. Typical applications include dry-running compressor seals, hydraulic and pneumatic sealing elements, pump wear rings, chemical-process bushings, and food-grade bearing pads where external lubrication is not permitted. Recommended mating surface hardness is 45 HRC or higher for rotating steel shafts, and counterface roughness should be maintained between 0.2 µm and 0.4 µm Ra for low-wear operation.
