glass and molybdenum disulfide filled PTFE tubing

Glass and molybdenum disulfide filled PTFE tubing is engineered for applications where virgin PTFE falls short in compressive strength, wear resistance, and dimensional stability. The 15% glass 5% MoS2 PTFE tube for low friction is a filled grade that uses 15% milled glass fiber to resist cold flow and 5% molybdenum disulfide to form a self-lubricating transfer film. This combination is widely specified as a low starting torque PTFE tube for pneumatic cylinders, linear slides, automotive control cables, and valve spools because it virtually eliminates the stick-slip that occurs when unfilled PTFE sits under load. Unlike oil-impregnated bronze or acetal, the tubing requires no external lubrication and remains chemically inert in aggressive environments. As a full-service MoS2 glass PTFE tube manufacturer, we compound our own resins, monitor filler dispersion with in-process sampling, and extrude to tight wall-thickness tolerances. The result is a PTFE tube with MoS2 and fiberglass filler that delivers a dynamic coefficient of friction as low as 0.05 against polished steel, a wear factor up to 50% better than virgin PTFE, and a compressive strength increase of approximately 30% at room temperature. The material also shows lower thermal expansion and higher creep resistance than standard PTFE, which helps maintain a stable bore diameter in precision guide-tube applications. Common uses include push-pull cables in heavy equipment, throttle and transmission shift cables, medical instrument guide tubes, food processing shaft seals, chemical injection lines with moving cores, and dry-running bushings where metal-to-metal contact is not allowed. The tubing is available in round, oval, and multi-lumen profiles, with outside diameters from 0.062 in (1.57 mm) to 1.500 in (38.1 mm), and custom wall sections can be produced to match existing hardware. Continuous service range is -100°F to 500°F (-73°C to 260°C), and the material withstands steam sterilization, most solvents, acids, and caustics. Because the glass and MoS2 fillers are evenly distributed, the tubing can be machined, flared, or thermally formed without delamination. This makes it suitable for high-cycle automation, semiconductor wet processing, and chemical dosing systems where downtime is expensive. Every lot is tested for tensile strength, elongation, specific gravity, coefficient of friction, and dimensional accuracy before shipment.

The glass and molybdenum disulfide filled PTFE tubing described here is the standard 15% glass / 5% MoS2 grade. It is produced in dark gray to black color with a smooth, uniform surface finish. The balanced filler system provides a practical improvement over unfilled PTFE in terms of wear life, creep resistance, and dimensional control. Key properties and available tolerances are listed below.

For metric requirements, equivalent sizes are produced in millimeter dimensions with tolerances to ISO 13000 or customer drawings. Straight lengths are normally supplied in 6 ft (1.83 m) sections, while small outside diameters can be coiled in continuous lengths. Custom flaring, drilling, notching, and cutting to length are available. The material is also suitable for bonding with epoxy or cyanoacrylate after surface etching, allowing integration into multi-component assemblies without additional fasteners. Packaging options include poly bags, spools, reel packs, and custom kitting. Each shipment includes a dimensional inspection report and material certification upon request. This tubing is stocked in common fractional sizes for quick turnaround, while non-standard dimensions are extruded to order with short lead times.
